Hi, welcome to the site!

Do you need any specific advice? Who suggested being dairy free?

Hope you stick around :)

Welcome to the site. I have been lactose intolerant on and off since birth (I am not called senior member for nothing :p ) I am still a chocoholic. My favourite non dairy bar is the Tesco organic plain . I am also very partial to peppermint creams or even mint matchmakers.

When shopping you will have to spend more time reading the ingredients on the labels. When there are allergy boxes on the labels they can't always be trusted so do check the ingredients.

If you need any other help just ask and I am sure we can help.

Mandy, welcome to the site!

What type of 'sugar' might you have to cut out--is it just sucrose (from sugar cane and sugar beet), or other sugars too? I don't have sugar in my diet and manage fine without it (but then I can't eat chocolate/cocoa either). I would suggest that you avoid substituting with artificial sweeteners, and there are natural sweeteners/sugars available--honey, maple syrup, date sugar (I have been told this exists but have not found any yet--I think that this would be my first choice of alternative sugar), other fruit sugars, and stevia (a natural herb [should be able to get it in health food stores] that comes in either liquid or granule-form).

glad im not the only chocoholic! i'll go first thing to tesco's now to raid their organic section... the tester did say just to check all the ingredients first, i guess once you get used to knowing what you're looking for, it gets easier. its a whole minefield at first i don't know where to start.

Mandy, welcome to the site. Do not worry about chocolate - there is still loads that you can have - though finding chocolate without sugar will be harder. After Eights, Elizabeth Shaw mints, Fry's chocolate cream, ruffle bars not to mention Green and Black 70% cocoa, maya gold, mint, cherry bars.

If there is anything specific that you need to know about just ask and somebody should be able to help.

What tests did you have done and where?

Take a look at this: http://www.dairyfreeuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=738

It gives you a list of milk products. Useful to know what ingredients to look for.

Mandy - welcome!

Do ask if there's anything specific you want to know. You might find the 'what did you eat today' thread useful in giving you ideas of what is OK to eat.
