Hi all

This may sound like a silly question but is caramel just sugar or is there butter in it too?

i love Mr Tom peanut bars and they are covered in caramel....not sure if it will set me off though!

Can I also say this site has been so helpful thanks all!

I would avoid things with caramel unless I could check the ingredients and be sure that they didn't contain butter or any other milk products. You might find that they use oil instead of butter but you will probably need to get your magnifying glass out and see what the small print says.

Hi all,

I agree with Pam on the caramel, that unless i can check al the ingredients I will not eat it. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Kind Regards,

Lan. :D

HI all

Thanks for the advice about caramel..they didnt say what was in the caramel, so i will abstain i think!

It is the cheese that is really getting me down, anyone know of a good stilton substitute? I was a stilton addict in my previous life!

I'm not a big cheese fan - either dairy free or otherwise, but I miss being able to use cheese to top things or in sauces.

I think the nearest things to real english cheese are Cheezly and sCheese which are both available from health food shops. They are both a crumbly texture rather than a smooth rubbery texture and have that sweaty feet/sicky smell that real cheese has. People either love them or hate them so it is all down to individual taste.

Hi all,

I have to admit that I am a major cheesly fan, as I find it very tasty and the texture is not too bad.

I was a big cheese fan in my previous life and couldn't get enough. This cheese has changed in the past year and I now find it better than ever. The best thing you can do is taste it and see what you think. Also keep us posted on the results.

Kind Regards,

Lan.

Maybe it's time I tried it again, Lan, if you think it has changed. Which flavours have you tried? I only ever tried the cheddar style one. I've got 3 tubs of toffuti in the fridge that aren't doing anything for me at the moment - I should have a go at that cheesecake recipe.

Hi Pam,

The flavours I have tried are as follows:

Normal Flavour - Lovely
Nacho Flavour - Too spicey for me
Bacon Flavour - Very nice

Out of all of them I prefer the normal flavour mind, but other people's tastes may differ.

Hope you enjoy,

Lan. :D
