View Full Version : How long will this last?

Long story short, my mother made two pies for Christmas dinner and I ended up eating the wrong one, which had butter in it. My throat started swelling up and I started getting a swollen feeling in my sinuses and also feeling a bit sick (which caused me to ask her if the pies had got mixed up, which we discovered was the case).
Today I still feel ill, and it's pretty similar to a cold/flu in a lot of ways - it's so long since I knowingly had any milk products that I don't really know what to expect, or even if this is a result of that - could it be coincidence and that I just have a cold that came on a bit suddenly? if not, does anyone have any idea how long the reaction will last?

As your throat started swelling up this sounds like an allergy to milk and not an intolerance. This should be taken very seriously - if your throat was to swell too much you would be in serious trouble. I think that you should discuss this with your GP at the earliest opportunity. You need to know what to do if this happens again.
I don't know how long you will be feeling ill after eating the wrong pie. I guess it will take a little while. Please be very careful that you don't have any more dairy products.
i'd go along with copper and suggest a trip to the doctors. it would be a very odd cold that came on that fast. too much of a coincidence.
how long last?? well i'd think only a day or so until the bad stuff leaves via the normal route!!!!:o
get on the phone to the doc. hope you're feeling better by mow.

You obviously suffer from the bad form of LI. Which means Your body only has the bare minimum lactase to survive. I suffer really badly too, so I know how you feel. Your symptoms of flu will start to wear off after about 3 days but usually I find my tummy needs at least 2 weeks. Try taking soon lactose free anti hystermine and some lactase enzyme tablets this will help. I find I get bad constipation so a good dose of calnfig usually works for me. Hope you are feeling weel soon.

Lactose intolerance should never make anything swell - throat swelling is a sure sign of an allergy.
I know this as I had twenty questions with a pair of nurses before I had the flu jab. They were asking if I got swelling after eating eggs which I don't. I had to hang around for 15 minutes after the jab to make sure that I was ok. If I had been allergic to eggs and had a bad reaction to the jab they would have given me an injection to prevent me going into shock - very scary thought.
Twinkle please tell us when you have been to the doctor and discussed this latest episode. Allergies are not to be taken lightly - they can be life threatening.
i can only re-iterate what copper said. assume the worst and let the doctors tell you that it isn't an allergy. too risky to just assume!
Hi there.
I know that I get cold like symtpoms when I have a reaction and my sinuses really play up. I agree with everyone else that a trip to the Doctors would be wise.
Take care,
Lan. :lol2:
