I buy Asda own brand prawn crackers and they are ok. They state:
contains egg and shellfish.
may contain traces of nut and/or seeds.
I also eat the ones Asda sell by the deli counter.
Our local chinese takeaway said that I should be ok with most of their menu as long as there is no batter on the food. As I'm also onion free they make me chow mein and rice dishes containing no onion - by special request!

thanks very much, i will be stocking up
I've never had any trouble with prawn crackers either. Funnily enough, a friend who is severely allergic to fish and shellfish (as in, throat swells up, goes bright red, sweats buckets at the least trace) is also OK with most brands. I don't know what they do put in them, but its obviously not dairy or fish!:)
Only thing other than batter to look out for is any stock - for instance, Wagamama (which is Japanese food, I know, but similar sort of thing) uses chicken and pork stock that contains lactose. Which is fine if you know, as you can ask for the dish with vegetable stock instead, but its not obvious.

Hi all,
The only thing I avoid in a chinese is the sweet and sour chicken, as the chicken comes in batter and was quite ill after eating. I tended to eat anything else and no other problems.
