I know this is a dairy-free website, but since yeast is often mentioned here, I have a doubt.

In Italy we use the same word for yeast and baking powder, so I am somewhat confused when someone speaks of 'yeast free' diet.
Now, I understand that yeast, containing fungi, is bad for yeast intolerance. I do not understand why baking powder, who is 100% chemical and developping gasses only at high temperatures (as far as I know), would be bad too. Or it is not?

I will be very interested in yr opinions.

Baking powder is ok for people on a yeast free diet.

baking powder can contain wheat if you have to avoid that.

if not then the only bad effect is that it can make food taste funny if you use too much, but otherwise can't see a problem.

Its a bit off topic, but apparently people who are allergic to yeast also often react to mushrooms.

And if you see 'nutritional yeast' in the recipes section, then that isn't the yeast you use for baking but something that tastes cheesy / nutty and (as far as I know) doesn't seem to set off yeast allergies. Its quite hard to get hold of, though, you need a proper health food shop (*not* Holland and Barret).

yeast and mushrooms are all fungi..... hence the reaction to both.:o
