Hi all! I am new to the site. I have 13 month old boy/girl twins, Archer & Phoebe. Archer has been diagnosed with a dairy allergy. I am keeping both of them on the same diet - it's just easier that way - and safer. Archer tends to steal whatever Phoebe has!

Anyway - I would very much appreciate recipe ideas. I have a bunch of toddler cookbooks but they are all very milk and cheese oriented.

I am in the states so I might not have some of the products you all have in Britain. But we are all getting so globalized I might! Recommendations and help would be very appreciated!

Thanks-
Dana

welcome to the site.
a couple of searches should point to towrds some ideas.
what sort of things do you want? cakes , snacks main meals ???

the main thing for you will be to learn to read labels as milk will turn up in the most unlikely places. as a bulking agent and too bind flavours to foods.
so the more fresh ingredients you use the easier it will be. processed food is the pain in the butt.

plenty of differnt types of milk substitutes

here's a great site i just found that lists loads of suppliers this'll be handy for everyone not just you
http://allallergy.net/products/index.cfm/cdeoc/XF

most recepies are fairly easy. just replace the milk or butter with the dairy free version. they tend to work just aswell.

keep coming back and i'm sure we can help

Welcome!

I know that there are a lot of foods that you can't get here in the UK (or not easily) but that are freely available in the USA. Soyatoo ice-cream and Nana's cookies spring to mind, but there are quite a lot of others. If you Google for 'vegan recipes' you'll also get a lot of ideas - I find it easier to add meat back in to recipes than to take milk out. www.vegweb.com (http://www.vegweb.com) is quite good, though for my taste you have to at least quadruple all the herbs / spices in the recipes there - but maybe bland is good with toddlers?

Do ask any specific questions, and we'll do our best to help.

Nic

Claire - Thank you for the welcome and Nic thanks for the link. very good idea about vegan and just adding meat in. I will check it out and let you all know how my two gobble it all up. I hope!

If anyone wants to see endless photos of my two here is their blog:

Ah Dana the twins look sweet. I bet they keep you busy. How is the house building coming along? Is your house really going to be that big?:lol2:

Hi!
My 2-year-old daughter EDEN also has a dairy allergy. I'm from Boston, Mass. but have lived in the U.K. for almost 6 years now.

Have you tried Tofutti or TurtleMountain (U.S. brands) icecream yet? Sure an easy food for the twins, at their age.

Have a nice day

Vanessa.

Copper - The twins do keep me very busy and they truly are sweet. Thank you. I have never been so in love! Our driveway is done and the foundation should be started tomorrow, but we are expecting a day of torrential rain, so perhaps not! Our house will be about 3,000 square feet. 3 bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths. With the mini mansion craze here in the states it seems small! We are currently in a tiny 800 square foot cottage. With our twins, a dog and a cat. On dark winter days I verge on losing my mind now that the two of them are so mobile!!

Vanessa - How did you end up in the UK? We are in Lyme, Connecticut - about 2 1/1 hours from Boston or NYC. My husband was born in the UK and has a British passport - which he needs to re-new. We would love to live there some day! I was living in London when we were first dating. Where are you in Wales? I've only been to South Wales - Denby I think it was. And yes - Just found Tofutti cream cheese the other day. I think it is excellent! I can't tell the difference and had it on a bagel this morning! Haven't seen TurtleMountain but I need to go check out the health food store - I am sure they will have more items then our regular A & P store.

And Copper - You are in Dorset? Such a beautiful area of England. My sister went to Exeter University for a year, which I guess is in Devon, but near Dorset!!

Off to put something together for dinner!
