I know many of you have already had bad experiences with Sainsbury's and I just wanted to add another one.

I noticed the apple and woodland fruit strudels had been repackaged - the new packaging now says "suitable for vegetarians" whereas they used to be suitable for vegans too, but I looked at the allergy info panel - nothing about milk, and did a minute comparison of the ingredients between the old and new packages, and couldn't see anything obvious - no lact-anything, whey, butter-oil or anything like that.

So I've just phoned the customer 0800 number and been told (after a long pause) that the strudels now contain "whole milk". I told the person I had spoken to ("Kerry") that there was no mention of milk on the packaging, either in the ingredients or the allergy panel, and she gave the verbal equivalent of a shrug, saying "oh, there should be". I don't think she even promised to look into it.

I asked to get the information she had given me in writing and she wouldn't, but she said if I write to Sainsbury's they will reply in writing.

Bloody irritating.

Sainsburys never bloody learn do they?! I guess I should assume that everything in their stores will make me ill.

Much as I dislike the fact that Tesco are taking over the market I will keep shopping with them. They are not perfect but they are not as bad as Sainsburys. I still shop at the Jewish deli and my local health food shop as they are reliable and helpful.

BOTHER!!! That was my stand-by pudding for guests. Bother and bother again, and lots of stronger words that I won't type. Aaaggh!

Bloody Sainsburys.

Thanks for checking, though.
