Hi everyone. I decided to go on a lactose free diet after suffering with bad skin for years. I tried all other allergy alternatives but this one has done the job. It's quite exciting now trying to find recipes that can be used with soya products instead of dairy ones. I was looking for quiche recipes and then found a recipe for yorshire puds, so will be using my family as guinea pigs tonight. Did fish pie last week and they didn't even notice..... even asked if I could do it again soon. Has anyone found any basic family meals that are acceptable?

Hi Heather - glad to hear you have found a solution. Everyone on the site does exactly as you have been doing and substitutes a soya/rice/sunflower product (depending on other intolerences) for the milk.

Welcome Heather!

Basically, you can cook whatever you normally do unless it requires cheese. There are decent substitutes (which most people don't notice) for milk, single and double cream, yoghurt, butter etc. For cheese, there are some fake ones (this site is divided over which is best, I think they're mostly horrid but luckily am OK with goats cheese) but they're definitely noticeable.

If you have any standard recipes that you would like help converting, lots of people here could help.

Good luck!

Welcome to our cosy corner of the web! Pull up a chair, warm your feet by the fire and help yourself to a (soy milk) cocoa. :lol2:

What sort of meals were you thinking about? Things like roasts are still very easy (and you already know that yorkshire puddings are perfectly possible), creamy sauces can be made with milk substitutes, and personally I DO think that some of the soya cheeses make a good rarebit, so long as you mix them with other ingredients. :)

Let us know what sort of things you'd normally cook, and we can always help out with ideas.
