View Full Version : Dairy Intolerance/Allergy
I have had food problems recently and am scheduled to see a dietician, problems being I have been told by work that I am illegible for time off. In other words I have to keep my annual holidays to see the dietician.
I am so mad as I am ill and am trying to keep from taking time off work, maybe I should do so and maybe then they would understand.
I want to go on holidays not save them for the dietician, I don't want to think about being bad. I've saved all this overtime and get treated like this.
I feel really cheesed (excuse the pun) off as people with long term illnesses i.e ceoliacs are treated better. Please note I have a friend who is a ceoliac. However if they are treated as illnesses then maybe we all should be.
Please support this poll as am going to send it to as many people as possible.
Thank you.
Lan. :D :D
Bit of a tricky one. I think if you are seeing specialists then your work place should allow you the time off. Once you are diagnosed (which is sometimes difficult) and you don't avoid the offending substance then it may be your own fault. This is easier said than done with so many things hidden in what we eat. I am lucky that I have understanding work colleagues. But they may have different attitudes if they thought I wasn't avoiding what I was intolerant to.
I think there is generally a lack of understanding of what we have to go through. You seem to work in an unsympathetic place. Is it just your immediate boss? Can you take it any higher with out making it difficult for your self?
Hope you get sorted out

Hi there all,
I really need to have a whinge, so here goes:
I have a woman who works with me and insists on telling everybody that I am unable to eat things, and the complete reason why.
Today (02/10/03) she actually decides that my rice cakes smell and makes a point of telling the whole office, plus the one colleague I deslike starts to what I would call snigger. I shut my mouth not to give them the satisafction but felt quite down after.
Why should we have to put up with this? We are human beings with feelings after all, and it really annoys me when people feel the need to take over, or comment. I never comment when they have jacket potato with loads of cheese, or chicken pieces or rolls oozing with butter.
Maybe I shopuld start commenting and tell them what I think.
If you ever experience this then please feel free to rant as I have. This really makes you feel better.
Look forward to your replies.
Kind Regards and lot's of ranting please.

Hi Lan
I think you work with some very nasty people! I think telling them what you think may be a good thing but if they are that horrible and see how much it hurts you they may make it even worse. There might be some kind of ruling about discrimination in your work place if they are making your life a misery. I feel that I am very lucky as my work colleagues have been very supportive, mainly because they have seen me suffering (and had to deal with the odour in the loo!) Don't know what your symptoms actually are but asking them how they would like to suffer with what you do may be a start, maybe on a one to one basis with out too much ranting? Ok to rant on the forum though - we all understand.

aw come on.. can't you find anything smellier than rice cakes to wind them up? they are just jealous that you are strong enough to not eat the stuff that is not good for you. it does take willpower, especially for those of us that comfort eat when we are down.
i'm currently having *major* problems with neighbours, and am a poster on the neighbour from hell in britain forum. some of the best ways to stop people getting under your skin really help on their.. although a little extreme for your situation, the suggestion of wearing sunglasses all year round as you enter your house in the effort to avoid contact never fails to make me smile as i imagine doing that myself!
hope the lifestyle changes are suiting you well :)
