My daughter has been on Pepti just over a week now, she is now doing more solid poos and only 1 a day usually where as on regular baby formula (Aptimal) she was doing 3-4 yellow explosions a day. Does this mean she is better on this formula?
She is still fidgity on her feeds and throwing up alot but she has a cold so am not sure if its that causing her to fidgit.
So confusing, lol!

Well from the nappy side of things it sounds like Pepti is better for her. Time will tell I guess. It will be interesting to see if she stops being sick once she is over her cold. I hope so :) They don't mention these problems in the baby books do they?! I always found the books were full of happy contented babies.

Hi,
She was very sick on Neocate aswell. Shall see how she goes, the Pepti deffinatly doesn't seem to fill her up though, she is now waking up all night.

Hi Copper,
She is 24 weeks now.
When on Aptimal she was projectile vomiting and doing yellow runny poos about 4 times a day, dietician said its deffinatly a milk protein intolerance and we are seeing her next week. She is on cow & gate pepti now and only poo's once a day and its more solid but green which i think is normal but she isn't so keen on the taste and its a battle to get her to swallow it, lol.

When are you advised to start weaning these days? Mine were weaned at 4 months but that was in the dark ages :D
I guess things will get better once she can eat a variety of food - dairy free or maybe just milk protein free.
I thought that a problem with milk protein is an allergy not an intolerance. Allergies should be taken far more seriously than intolernaces as they can be life threatening.

Its 6 mths now but I have started Jem this week at 24 weeks so not much earlier and she is just on pureed veg.
I have no idea, I just got told by dietician that she has a milk protein intolerance, she cannot digest it or something. When she was given a fromage frais though she had bad nappies and then was constipated for over a week, when she has regular formula she can't stop pooing all the time and its really loose.
She doesn't seem to get tummy ache now where as she did as a tiny baby.

OK I have done a little research on the net now. I know that protein intolerance exists now. I also read that if a baby does not settle after two weeks then they should be given an amino acid based "milk". If you look at this list I found here
http://www.paediatricgastroenterologist.co.uk/Milkstable.htm
this apperas to be Neocate. I know that others here have mentioned Neocate ,which if I remember correctly, smells horrible and probably doesn't taste too good either.
Maybe if Jem does not settle on her current milk you could ask the dietician about Neocate. You will need to avoid foods which contain milk protein. I also read that they can grow out of this intolerance.

Yes she was on Neocate but refused to drink more than 2oz, had poor weight gain and was extremely sick.
She isn't an easy baby is she?lol!
Thanks for that.

Oh dear she likes to keep us all guessing doesn't she ? :)
I hope she settles and maybe things will be much better once she eats more food.

Why do they projectile vomit if they have regular formula? why does it have that effect?? wierd. Julie

I found this on a web site
What is a dairy allergy?
It is an immune reaction which can be severe and can be similar to a peanut or other serious allergy. Only 1-2 per cent of children are believed to have proper food allergies. Possible reactions could be reddening of skin, swelling lips, projectile vomiting, asthma attack, swelling of breathing tubes, serious drop in blood pressure as a shock-reaction – called an anaphylactic reaction.
That is the closest I could get to why. I guess that the body realises that protein (in the milk) has got into the system and has to be attacked. The quickest way of removing this perceived danger is for the stomach to reject it - hence the projectile vomiting.
I hope that this makes sense.

Yes, I agree with Copper, it's the quickest way for the body to get rid of it.

Makes sense, thanks:)
Poor Jemima all those times she was throwing up everywhere I was more worried about the state of my carpet:lol2:
We are seeing dietician on Wednesday to see how Jemima is doing and to discuss weaning, ive only just started but im abit puzzled about how I get some weight on her bones without dairy in her diet. She is 24 weeks and only about 14lbs max. Was 6lb 15oz at birth and im only dinky but my sons were big boys (8lb 9.5oz & 8lb 7oz at birth)
Thanks for your help.

Cate has only just started putting weight on after 8 long months (she's the size of a 7 month old even though she's about 14 months). The paediatrician and dietician always said that she would once her stomach had settled down. The Pepti is stacked with calories though so that will help her pile on the ounces!!!!

Thanks Ruth,
She has been on Pepti now almost 2 weeks, she likes it as is far less sick on it. Her poo's are now almost solid which was unheard of on Aptimal:p
Does your little girl use Pepti? I quite like the smell of it, its like Horlicks:lol2:

my dietician told me that the smell was terrible..but I thought it was Horlicks..I couldn't bear to taste it though! Cate initially refused it and would then only drink a couple of ounces but she now guzzles 8 and 9 ounc bottles of the stuff...and that is from a baby who had been breastfed for 13 months!!
do your other children have allergies? Cate is our 3rd and like you we had ours close together (Beth is 4, Josh is 2 and Cate is 1!!!...there was just 3 years and 3 mnths between the first and LAST!!!)...Beth has a little bit of eczema but that's it...and with Cate I didn't give her any solids until she was nearly 7 months and absolutely everything was organic...so we've got no idea where the food allergies came from...my husband and I both have asthma but that's it

Hi,
Rhys had a mild dairy intolerance with formula but not yoghurts or cheese, dylan my eldest was always sick after feeds and now has hayfever really badly.
Hard having 3 so young isn't it?
Ju
yeah...three little ones is hard...ihave not managed a single day without changing a nappy in 4 1/2 years...and I've had plenty of time with 2 in them at the same tiem!!! Pretty hard as we did use reusables (I must admit that I succumbed to disposables when Cate started with all the diarrohea!!!).
I think that we went into having a 3rd with a fairly blase attitude it hadn't crossed our minds that she would get so ill! We thoguth that the third would just slot into our lives...oops!

Hi Ruth,
I am forever changing bums, I also use reusables but at the mo my youngest are in disposables because its abit easier on me. My eldest was in cloth until he potty trained.
Were all of your dairy intolerant and how did they react to formula and yoghurts etc..?
