Bread seems to be a bit hit and miss, so you really have to check the labels. Avoid milk loaves and anything with cheese of course but also check any other bread. Some breads use calcium propionate, particularly pitta bread and naan bread, others use milk, whey powder etc. I also found that my daughter had a bad reaction to my supermarkets own brand french sticks and as these didn't come with an ingredients list I couldn't check but I suspect the glaze that they use contains milk.

If you're serious about avoiding milk 100% you need to buy bread that is labelled with the ingredients and check the label every time.

Thanks Pam

phew what a speedy reply!
Well I eat a lot of pitta bread..so that could be causing me problems....I may consider making my own from now on as I love bread. I haven't elimated things that say that they have calcium in them...I'm going to have to be ruthless as I cannot stick my exzema flare ups, they really get me down.

Thanks for the advice

Debbie

I've replied to you by private message before I saw your post here (I got a little pop up window telling me I had a pm from you) but for the benefit of others:

I can recommend the Vegan Society's Animal Free shopper/ Vegan Shopper book which is a pocket size guide to animal free foods, household products, medicines etc. It tells you what is available and where to get it and also has lists of additives etc and where they are derived from.

As an eczema sufferer you should also be cautious about household products, particularly soap and washing powder which can contain milk derivatives.
