Hi. Mac has a faulty gene, Thanks to me and his dad! His body cannot break lactose down like mine and yours. If he had lactose it would build up and make him ill. He was born on the 16th dec 2002 & was constantly sick & getting yellower by the hour. He went back into hospital on xmas eve &was diagnoised 4 days later. Mac was put straight onto soya milk & the improvement was unbelieveable. Now he is on a strict lactose free diet for life. It is more compliceted than that but didn't want to get carried away explaining it!

hi lazy option for me but did a quick google and found the society for that condition http://http://www.galactosaemia.com/start/index.html

you should be able to get loads of extra info there but that's not to say we can't help.
you'll get loads of practical everyday info from us here.

welcome and hope things are getting better

Hi Bella! And WELCOME!

My daughter is now allergic to dairy and we seem to have had it all: gone from dairy intolerance to lactose intolerance to dairy allergy. I have to say that I found the lactose Intolerance stretch the "easiest", or should I say "least inconvenient" rather, as she could have lactose-free milk!
What milk alternative does your son drink, if any?

I've come across this condition before but don't know the in's and out's.

Vanessa.

Hi Bella. I'm quite new to the site and so far have found it really useful. I'm sure you'll find everyone friendly and so helpful, from advice to recipes. My son is 2 and has a dairy and egg allergy, which he has had from birth. I've managed to find loads of alternatives, as I'm sure you will too, so they don't go without or feel different. Hope you enjoy the site-I know I do. My husband jokes that I'm addicted to it, as I'm on it so often!!

Hi Bella
I have Galactosaemia. When I was born I was very sick, and the doctors did not know what was wrong with me and I was losing so much weight that I could have easily died. I had a Uncle born (in 1940) that was a very sick baby, he died after 5 days and possibly had galactosaemia too, but at that time doctors didnt know anything about galactosaemia.

Hi butterfly. how are you? Are you a member of galactosaemia support group as well as this? Loads of questions to ask you, like how you cope and what you eat. You may know of lots of lactose free foods i have never heard. Mac who has galac. is 3. We always seem to be him the same meals, poor thing!!
