Had an awful week with Jemima, she started with diorrhea & vomiting on wednesday after a very sleepy day on Tuesday which I put down to teething. Wednesday night she started being sick and had diorrhea after or during every feed, she also developed a temperature in the night.
She saw the dr thursday who said it must be a bug, noone else has had it. I am worried about her, although her poo's are now abit more formed although not alot they are now not mucusy and watery they are now very yellow (korma style) and like paste, she is now having 2-3 a day from about 6 and she is feeding ok. She is still very irratable though but her temp is normal.
I am just worried if it isn't a bug whats wrong with her, I have avoided milk but what if they boys gave her abit of cheese or chocy if I wasn't looking or what if I gave her milk in something by mistake, could it cause this reaction??
She usually has green formed poo's on Pepti (her formula) but they are bright yellow and she is now back on the pepti and drinking well.
Sorry to go on just worried about my little girl. Dr said to put stool sample in if no better by tomorrow.
Ju x
I hope it was just a bug and she recovers quickly.

Hi Ju, there are lots of sickness and diarrhoea bugs going around my 2 youngest had it, and Zac started exactly the same as Jemima, being very sleepy and "off it" on the thursday then started being sick on the Friday afternoon. If she has had a temperature then it is more likely tio be a bug. There have even been schools closed down because of it. Give her a couple more days and I'm sure she will be feeling much better. Take Care, Lou xx

An allergy or intolerance will not make your temperature rise. This D&V bug is everywhere and is a nasty one. It sounds like your poor little girl has had a dose of this bug and she should now be over the worse. Let us know how she is doing.

Awww thank you all. She isn't taking solids at the moment but she is taking her pepti formula very well and water aswell. Putting a stool sample in tomorrow anyway. What will they test for does anyone know? would it show up lactose intolerance? she had a test for that when she was tiny but was negative.
Thanks again:-)

Put in a stool sample to the doc as he suggested and then you will know if she had a bug. It will help your piece of mind. It is probably a bug but you seem so worried it is best to be sure. (Smiley chosen by my 5 year old)
yeah any stool sample will be to culture any bacteria infection. thus finding out whether it's that causing the problem.
there are loads of these type of bugs doing the rounds. that's the trouble with kids they aren't the cleanest of animals.
hard to teach them to wash their hands enough and to avoid touching their faces so much. that's the biggie. if theycan avoid touching their face and obviously wash hands prior to eating then you can avoid most colds , flu and food poisoning.
hope she's better soon.:)

I agree it will show if she has a bacterial infection. This virulent D&V thing doing the rounds now is also known as "winter vomiting virus". If she has had this, then as it is a virus it will not show up in the results.
Not showing an interest in food is not a problem as we we don't feel like eating after a bout of D&V. It takes a bit of time to get over having your insides turned inside out. As long as she is drinking she will be fine - she won't get dehydrated. The only reason that this virus is a worry is that the elderly and the very young could quickly get dehydrated. I have heard of young children going into hospital with this sort of illness - just to be rehydrated via a drip - not nice.

When mine have a D+V bug I find a rehydration sache sometimes sets them right again and can turn things around. I dont know how old they have to be to give them but I think you can give them to babies.
The others are right there are loads of bugs going around - I hope she is better soon.
I am sure we all understand why you are worried, it is your job to worry and care about her and make sure she is properly looked after and you have been going through a difficult time. If she doesnt get better keep going back to the doctors and dont feel bad about it - its their job and we are all paying their wages to make sure we all get the help we need.
rehydration packets good but if you run out it's only a mixture of sugar and salt. spoonfull sugar and i think, though don't hold me to this. a 1/2 spoon of salt. in some plain boiled water.

This is probably very little help, but the D & V bug is going around here too. It seems to be one that people get twice with about a week in between. A 'Virus' evidently.

Well lets hope it stays down there then, Scotland has its own epidemic MEASLES.:(
slight good news i did hear that they are making a vaccine against the d& v virus.
i had the mmr last year as mumps were around and i had no imunity! didn't fancy that much:o
My kids' after school club is closed due to the d&v bug - 5 staff and 6 kids have it, I'm hoping that mine don't come down with it. I had to finish work 2 hours early yesterday and will do the same today to collect them from school. There are loads of schools closed in Bradford (or have been closed) due to the bug.
The bad news is that it seems to be spreading to high schools now.
The number of schools shut in Bradford is amazing, my brothers friend has not long started his first teaching job, which is in Bradford, so he's managed to get a few days off!!
Hope you're kids don't get it Pam.
So far so good, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Things are back to normal with the Out of School Club now.
The early finishes were nice though.
